The Care Givers Lunch is today, at 12:00 noon, at the Morganton Community House.
TAI CHI CLASSES have begun at Grace Church in the Parish Hall. There are two different times, Wednesdays at 5:30 pm, and Thursday mornings at 6:30 am. The classes are free and are open to people of all ages and physical condition. They foster mental, spiritual and physical well being and relaxation.
This evening, the Environmental Concerns Committee will meet at 5:30 in the Parish Hall.
Looking ahead, next Monday, May 4, is Grace Church's day to work the BUCM SOUP KITCHEN, from about 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. If you would like to help with this rewarding ministry, call Joe Long at 205-5953.
Also, next Wednesday a week, May 6, is the monthly ECW LUNCHEON, at 12:00 noon. The program, "Trip to Wales" will be given by Kathy Gaines. Her pictorial will include ancient church ruins still in use and the hillsides and flowers of a country that has more sheep than people. Hostesses will be Mary Alexander, Jean Childress, Sarah Carter, and Florence Poland. All Episcopal women and their guests are cordially invited. Please remember the board meeting at 11:00 AM.
The National Day of Prayer this year is Thursday, May 7. Events in Morganton include speakers and music at COMMA the night of May 5, a Women's Prayer Brunch at the Community House, on May 6, and the actual National Day of Prayer Observance on May 7, at 12:00 noon, at the Old Courthouse. On the diocesan level, the deadline for applications for Global Mission Grants from the diocese is this Thursday, May 1. These are grants for projects whose stated purpose relates to the Millennium Development Goals, which are:
Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Achieve universal primary education
Promote gender equality and empower women
Reduce child mortality
Improve maternal health
Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
Ensure environmental sustainability
Develop a global partnership for development

The theme of the Ministry and Mission Conference this year is Finding Peace in Turbulent Times. The conference is June 6, at First Baptist Church, Asheville. It is a day of workshops on a wide variety of subjects. You may find more information on the diocesan website.
